1M Individuals Impacted By Healthcare Data Breach at Medical Device Company

- ZOLL Medical Corporation recently began notifying more than one million individuals of a healthcare data breach. According to its website, ZOLL Medical develops novel resuscitation and acute critical care technology.

ZOLL detected suspicious activity within its network on January 28, 2023, and immediately took steps to investigate by consulting with third-party security experts and notifying law enforcement.

By February 2, ZOLL had determined that names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and birth dates were potentially compromised. The investigation is still ongoing, but ZOLL notified impacted individuals of the incident and offered 24 months of complimentary identity theft protection services.

“It is important to be careful when receiving emails or other communications from unknown individuals, including any communications with your medical details. You may also take advantage of the complimentary identity protection services being offered,” the company noted.

Wisconsin Orthopedic Practice Discloses Breach

Bone & Joint Clinic, S.C., in Northcentral Wisconsin disclosed a healthcare data breach that potentially impacted an undisclosed number of current and former patients and employees.

Bone & Joint suffered a network disruption on January 16, 2023 and launched an investigation into the incident. The practice later determined that an unauthorized party may have acquired some administrative and medical files.

The files contained names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, phone numbers, addresses, diagnosis and treatment information, and health insurance information. Bone & Joint offered impacted individuals 12 months of credit and identity theft monitoring.

“The protection of personal and protected health information is a top priority for Bone & Joint, which deeply regrets any inconvenience or concern caused by this incident,” the notice continued.

“In addition to enhancing its network security, Bone & Joint contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation and will provide whatever assistance is necessary to hold the perpetrators accountable.”

Dental Health Management Solutions Notifies 3K of 2021 Breach

Texas-based Dental Health Management Solutions (DMHS) recently notified 3,205 individuals of a data breach that occurred in August 2021.

After discovering suspicious activity in August 2021, DMHS engaged a third-party cybersecurity firm to conduct a forensic investigation. By October of the same year, DMHS found evidence that an unauthorized actor had accessed data within its email environment.

DMHS conducted a data mining investigation in September 2022 and determined that some Social Security numbers were involved in the incident.

“We are working with cybersecurity counsel to determine the necessary actions in responding to the incident. Together, we continue to closely monitor the situation. DHMS has also notified the FBI and local police departments as to the incident,” the notice stated. “Further, we are taking steps to strengthen our security posture to prevent a similar event from occurring again in the future.”
