Former Mid-Florida Urological employee accused of data breach

Author Name Patrick Ouellette   |   Date February 21, 2013   |   Tagged , , , , , ,

Florida’s WFTV.com reported former Mid-Florida Urological Associates medical assistant Selina Rodriguez has been accused of illegally accessing patient records from Orlando Health by using physician Dennis Donahue’s password and using the computers at Mid-Florida Urological.

With the records, Rodriguez allegedly committed insurance fraud and said some of the patients whose records she accessed were her children to obtain insurance money. For example, Shannon Solchenberger’s 8-year-old daughter, Nevaeh, was injured in a 2011 DUI crash, was a Rodriguez victim. Rodriguez claimed Navaeh was actually her daughter and filed a false insurance claim while pulling in more than $15,000. There were three other similar cases and it’s unknown whether there’s been damage done to the victims’ identities.

The news station also reported that she was caught in a check-cashing scheme last year, which may have tipped off police about her illegal activities. She no longer works at Mid-Florida Urological Associates.

In all, there were four separate cases and Rodriguez is allegedly facing about $100,000 in false insurance claims. Her first trial is scheduled for April 1.
